Bordeaux
A downloadable game
Bordeaux is a rules-lite TTRPG about rebels freeing a dystopian city in an alternate history bio-punk France. Using the Viator game engine and taking inspiration from Baldur's Gate, Dishonored, and actual history, Bordeaux is a game where you will either lead a revolution or die as just another martyr.
Bordeaux contains:
- The one-page core rules, along with some extra explanation and advice for the GM,
- Brainworms that infect every player, making them manage stress, exposure, and results,
- An alternate look at the real-life city of Bordeaux, with five different districts to explore,
- Optional rules for stealth, faction reputations, and addictions,
- Job generators that will keep the players busy with requests as they try to win over allies,
- And a list of eight VIP targets that each affect the city differently, with both their presence AND absence.
| Complexity? | 3/5 | Players have more paperwork than usual to manage because of their Brain Worms, and rules for stealth and reputation can also add a decent amount of complexity. |
| Game length? | 2/5 | Bordeaux is made with a natural story conclusion in mind, but it will still take several sessions to make progress towards that end. |
| Seriousness? | 5/5 | Bordeaux is a game where the players are meant to feel powerless, fighting back against an unstoppable force. The game touches on serious themes and topics, including politics, mental health (and illness), and body horror. |
| GM work? | 3/5 | The reputation rule and reactive city both add a decent amount of work for the GM, but both are written and designed to be not overwhelming. The plot hook generator also helps out a lot with planning sessions. |
Why are there two games? All Viator games come with two documents: the main game and the Player Guide. The main document (Bordeaux) is the full game, and it has all the relevant info about the setting, rules, and GM tools and advice. The Player Guide is a two page document that contains that overview for the setting and all of the rules that players need to create a character and start rolling dice. You can print it out double sided, and then you have everything that new or inexperienced players need to start playing, all on one piece of paper!
What do I need to play? Just the provided document and a couple of six-sided dice!
Is there any AI in this game? No, every single idea, word, and rule came from my own human brain. However, I did use AI while making this game to review and critique my writing. I won't blame you if you take issue with that, just wanted to be clear about my AI usage.
What if I want more Viator? Check out the other games below, or on my page viator.itch.io, all available for free! Between the various 1e settings that need updating and other new ideas for 2e, Viator's game catalogue will only expand as time goes on, so there will always be something to play!
